Donate Books - Recycle your books by donating them to your community!

If your bookshelves are full or a move is in your future, recycle your books and other related items by donating them to the Friends of the Pend Oreille County Library District.

What We do With Your Books

The Library staff considers donated books and materials for use in the collections of the Pend Oreille County Library District libraries using its Materials Selection Policy and Selection Criteria Policy as a guide.

If the library cannot use your materials, the material is given to the Friends of the Library where they may sell the material at their annual book sale or on Friends bookshelves located in each library. Thanks to the generosity of people like you, the Friends of the Library raise money for library programs, especially the summer reading program, as well as for other materials needed by the libraries.

How to Donate Your Books

Usable books may be brought to any library in the county (Newport Public Library; Calispel Valley/Cusick Library; Ione Public Library; or Metalines Community Library) during library hours. Just put your books in boxes or bags, come to the front desk and tell a staff member. We can assist you with unloading if you request help.

What we CANNOT use:

  • Books missing covers or pages
  • Harlequin romances
  • Reader’s Digest Condensed Books
